How To Know When You (Or Others) Need A Therapist To Help

I heard the CEO of Kaiser Permanente, Bernard J Tyson, speak last week and he said the biggest mistake we made was creating a separate medical institution for the body and another for the mind. Because this led to a stigma and negative connotations of anything brain health related. His company is now fixing this by having their general practitioners able to refer patients for mental health services just as easily as referring to an osteopath or a physical therapist.

It’s certainly taboo in my home country England to talk about, ask for, or admit to you have a need to talk to a mental health expert. While the stigma in the US isn’t quite so strong it is still there.

I am writing this today so that you know you are not alone, that if you feel like you would benefit from talking to an expert, ask for referrals from people you trust or your general practitioner.

I am not a trained therapist, but I have referred many of my highly successful clients to get therapeutic advice because I know my boundaries of what I can help with and when expert assistance is needed.

My own personal advisor Alan Weiss makes a great recommendation, get yourself a therapist when things are going incredibly well, let them help you deconstruct your success and build on it.

Could you or someone you know benefit from talking to a trained therapist?
Let’s break the stigma. One conversation at a time.

Dedicated to growing your business,
Val
