Executive Careers Top 10 Trends You Don’t Want To Miss

August 2, 2021 Nick Pritchett
Unknown-1.jpg

I’ve never seen so many executives and leaders reconsidering their careers, jobs, and life right now.

The pendulum has swung firmly towards the employee who has all the power and choice in what they do, where they work, and how they work.

Some fascinating trends in Executive Careers I’ve been discussing with CEOs and boards around the world:

  • Executives are moving companies if they don’t get the travel choices they want (have you heard: “I don’t want to travel this much/ I don’t want to be in the office this much….”)

  • Executives are being tapped for roles created just for them

  • Speed to hire is cut significantly

  • Hiring is happening predominantly from within your network

  • Head hunters are finding it hard to get executives & leaders to relocate as so many companies are letting you work anywhere

  • Executives have had a taste of taking control of travel/ the work you do / the work you don’t want to do and are demanding more from their current and future employers

  • Reinventing new chapters is increasing. Board work / advisory work / entrepreneurialism is on the rise

  • Retaining your team requires new creative ways as the head hunters are calling more frequently with lucrative packages

  • Executives are picking their own jobs internally and reverse interviewing FTS phenomenon is real (Forget This Stuff) and executives are taking action and control of their life and career. (…what did you think I meant by that acronym??!!)

Summer reflection on your life and career is real!

I’d love to hear what you are experiencing.

How Important Is It To Have People Cheering You?

July 26, 2021 Nick Pritchett
Unknown.jpg

Of course encouragement is effective. But how much do you really need it?

The Olympics Opening Ceremony was deathly quiet. The Olympics Tennis games echoed and sounded strange as we heard every breath and grunt from the players. The lack of crowds made it seem like it wasn’t real…but what I am most curious about is how the athletes felt?

Sports teams around the world have been playing in deserted stadiums. Likely very similar to the vacant lonelyness many have felt working from home for the last 18months.

What I am most curious about is the effect on productivity and performance when you are working in silence. How much do you need a cheering crowd? How much public encouragement do you need? How valuable is the recognition you get from others seeing your achievements?

This past 18 months has allowed us the unusual window into a social experiment of how we work, play, and interact.

The question to ask yourself is can you perform without the equivalent of a cheering stadium of fans? Are you comfortable enough in your own success to not need others to validate it?

That’s when you truly know that who you are and the impact you have on others is not judged by the cheers, the awards, or the scoreboard but your own belief in yourself.

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val

How To Go From Near Drowning To Winning A Medal

July 19, 2021 Nick Pritchett

Winning second place in a parents swim race might seem insignificant. That may cause many to shrug their shoulders and say ‘Yeah, so what?’

But, if you knew this parent had only learned to swim six years ago could you be any more impressed?

Yep, that was me, I wrote about my drowning experience in my Inc Magazine column few years back here.

What I learned this weekend was the incredible value or lack thereof of OTHER PEOPLES OPINION. As I was competing against other parents it occurred to me…

Have you felt something today has shifted? Tolerance, social connection, and spontaneous conversation has all changed.

It is time to reset the communication expectations and reality. Going back to the office has caused a shift. Going back to socializing face to face has caused a shift. It requires a new reset for how we communicate.

I’d love to hear what praise or recognition that  you are receiving.

It isn’t all about the trophies…
