The Perfect Way To Accept Failure Was Your Fault

July 12, 2021 Nick Pritchett

"We win and lose as a team, and the penalty takers are my call. We've worked on them in training; that's my decision. That's not down to the players”

That's what England Manager Gareth Southgate said after the Euro 2020 final on Sunday. Right after three England players missed their three penalties, giving the game to Italy.

Heartbreaking to watch the game, but listening to Southgate after the match take full responsibility for the three mistakes puts the spotlight on him, not the individual players.

Now, if only every manager could take that same level of ownership and responsibility to their part in failure…

World Cup 2022 anyone?

Three Amazing Reasons I Had To Celebrate This Weekend

July 5, 2021 Nick Pritchett
IMG_3376.jpg

18,000 of us were at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday night.

It was the first night back for the Los Angeles open air concert venue. No better band to see on opening night than Kool & the Gang. When they played “Celebration” I have never seen a crowd get up and dance with such crazed passion!

It was incredible to be out-out as we would say in England ( not just out for dinner, but out for an extended night of dancing and staying out late!!).

I got to spend the evening with three dear friends, without masks, in a public setting, eating, drinking and dancing. Maybe we spent just a little too long asking each other if it was real and taking a few too many photos and videos!!

I was also celebrating completing the draft of my 3rd manuscript and sending it off to my publisher, (reply with “news please”…if you want to be the first to hear more details.)

Finally, I was also celebrating England beating Ukraine and Germany to progress to the Semi Finals of Euro 2020.

Quite the week.

…it’s a delight to be celebrating again.

When you do, don’t forget to share.

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val

Five Of My Favorite Gadgets To Quickly Boost Your Productivity

June 28, 2021 Nick Pritchett
Unknown (1).jpg

I’m often asked what my favorite gadgets are, so I am sharing here:

My bullet journal. Sure it is old school, but it works for my adhd brain and is my creative outlet. I still get satisfaction from pencil and paper lists and crossing out activities as I complete them. My airpods. The noise cancelling feature alone is worth the investment to switch off outside distractions. I often wear them with no music playing just to silence the outside world. Evernote. It’s my digital filing system that I never have to actually file! The search function is incredibly effective for pulling up information based on one key word. My Fitbit. It helps track the quality and quantity of my sleep which is the foundation of my productivity, if all else falls by the wayside it’s sleep I focus on first to get a fast productivity boost. (I have all Fitbit notifications off, so my email and texts don’t appear on my wrist.)Linksys Velop Intelligent Mesh Wifi. With 5 of us in our house full time this year, we needed to max out our wifi capabilities and this certainly did the trick.

These are my top five productivity boosting gadgets, I’d love to hear your recommendations!

I used to write these type of round up recommendations frequently for my Inc Magazine column, let me know if you want to see more of them here and which topics would be of interest.

Val
