Unique Ways To Communicate With Anyone

September 8, 2020 Nick Pritchett

Many leaders ask me for inspiration when communicating beyond email. The Radiant Communications Circle is designed to provide you with a plethora of options. You can pick any one of the 20 rays of communication and implement them immediately. The key is not to be polished. Don’t perfect it, speed works far better than your fourth edit that delays it 24 hours or more. You can read more in Chapter Five of Rapid Growth, Done Right.

Here are three very specific examples of how the Radiant Communication Circle works in action.

  • Want to beat a monotonous company email introduction at your new company? Look how Netflix CMO Bozoma Saint John introduced herself. Creative, inspiring, and eye-catching. You don’t need the rose petals and fashion shoot - but how could you represent the real you in a video?

  • Extract lessons from a movie you’ve just watched. I did this last week after watching Alice in Wonderland. I wrote about it here. One of my most highly viewed Inc Magazine interviews was writing about Pixar’s Inside Out movie and why you need to let Sadness and Anger run the show.

  • Share your first 7 jobs and what you learned. Your team and peers will love hearing them. I explain mine here.

What are some of the most unique ways you communicate with your team and company? I would love to hear them.

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val

How To Make The Most Of Strong Referrals

August 26, 2020 Nick Pritchett

Whether you are hiring, looking for your next job, or seeking a new dentist, a referral is priceless.

This week an evil Curly Wurly bar pulled out one of my fillings. (If you haven’t tried the magical Cadbury’s creation of caramel and chocolate they are truly amazing, but not for loose cavities so it seems!) I immediately asked a close group of friends if anyone loved their dentist, because in 46 years I’ve suffered, tolerated, and been sort of grateful, but never really loved any of mine.

My friend Ashley reassured me hers was amazing, and she was absolutely right. If you are near Pasadena, CA I can’t recommend Dr Paul Shinto enough, even if he did perform emergency treatment on my cavity and told me that I needed a root canal! His office staff Sherry and team are delightful and it was the first time I’ve ever left a dentist’s office actually happy.

Referrals matter.

Referrals are  the easiest way to find the brilliant new team members you are looking for, discover your next role, or find the services that could help your company.

But...

You do have to ask.

So what referrals do you need today? I can likely help with introductions. Here are some of my requests:

  • One of my clients, francesca’s is looking for a Marketing Director. Do you have any referrals for them that I can pass along?

  • I also know of a brilliant CMO and an incredible CIO who are looking for their next roles - are you a CEO who is hiring for those roles in the near future?

  • Finally, I also know of a not-yet-announced VP of HR role reporting to the CEO, but this is for a not-your-typical-HR-leader kind of role.

Referrals are one of the major ways I get to grow my business too, executives who have worked with me or heard me speak, or read one of my books refer me to their executive colleagues and friends... so I wouldn't be practicing what I teach, if I didn't also mention...If you know of an executive, conference organizer, or company that could benefit from a conversation with me, please let me know. I love introductions!

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val

August 19, 2020 Nick Pritchett

I’ve just finished a virtual session with 23 brilliant senior executives from around the world.

It was a delight to hear the impact they are having in their communities and with their customers.

As we were discussing what could further accelerate their business having even more impact, it occurred to me it is time for some recap Thoughtfully Ruthless advice as we approach back to school season…

You might have previously read my Thoughtfully Ruthless book.

You may have heard me speak about being Thoughtfully Ruthless at a conference or company strategy retreat.

Maybe you found me on Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, or Instagram and followed my work.

However you came to read this, I encourage you all to follow these five steps for a time and energy boost:

  • Decide the specific outcomes you want to achieve in the next three months in your work life and whole life.

  • Reset your calendar and decline meetings and commitments that do not accelerate you to those goals.

  • Reorganize all your life inputs - email, Slack, Teams, DMs - be deliberate about what you consume, when you consume it, and how you take action.

  • Know your energy accelerators and decelerators and prioritize properly.

  • Complete this rapid Thoughtfully Ruthless® Executive Assessment for a deeper dive into how you are managing your time, energy, and resources. I will select ten executives who send me back the completed assessment for personalized feedback and specific advice.

Whether you are a parent or if you have parents on your team, back to school means new routines, heightened expectations, and practicing resilience - It is time to reprioritize, create open space on your calendar, be sensibly selfish, and keep your energy topped up for the new year ahead.

To your Thoughtfully Ruthless continued journey.

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val
