Xbox One: fueling multi-tasking obsession everywhere

May 21, 2013 Val Wright
XboxOne Virgin America

At 10,000 feet I watched the reveal of Xbox One on the way to San Francisco.  I was also checking my email, preparing for a client meeting and watching my twitter feed.   Yes, I am a self confessed obsessive multi-tasker.

I vaguely recall a time when my commute used to involve sitting on a train from Leamington Spa to London where I got 45 minutes to empty my inbox before my battery died and then I would write with a pen and paper.

Xbox One will allow me to video chat on Skype while playing a game, watching live TV, surfing the web and ordering pizza.  Multi-tasking heaven for many, including me.

There are times when I turn my wifi off, put my phone in flight mode, listen to my latest favorite tune and concentrate on one specific task.  I save this focussed attention for when I need to write, think or if I am against a tight deadline.  This is usually in the morning when I am most alert.  I reward myself in the afternoons with juggling multiple tasks and allowing myself to be distracted.

  • How does technology help or hinder you being productive?
  • Are you conscious about its productive or distracting powers?
  • What is the one area you could change today to increase your productivity?

Still, I will be first in line for the Xbox One, will you?
