How To Immediately Know If Your Network Has Expired
Successful executives can overtake their peers and not realize it until it is almost too late.
I was speaking at an executive breakfast last week in the Bay Area and I shared with CEOs, and other executives just how you know if your network has expired:
1. You no longer know people who can hire you. Five years ago those in your network likely could hire you. As your trajectory increases, you have to upgrade your circle of who knows you to the right altitude. That population changes the more successful you are.
2. You are giving more than you are receiving. Of course you want to support others earlier in their career journey but is it weighted the wrong way? If you aren’t getting as much as you are sharing then it’s time to flip the switch.
3. You realize Precision Divorcing is a necessity. Who in your network do you need to dial down the time and energy you invest so you can be free to refocus?
It’s easy to get frustrated that peers have landed bigger jobs, had more board invitations, or have won more recognition awards.
Instead, realize when your network has expired and get ready for an upgrade.
Dedicated to growing your business,
