You would never walk into the office of your boss and say "here meet Jenine, you two will get on great!" and then walk out leaving them to it.
Yet people do this over email all of the time. It creates awkwardness on both sides and wastes everyone's time.
Instead try this: only introduce people after a double yes. Where both sides say yes they want to meet each other.
I love connecting brilliant minds, but I always check for a double yes before making the introduction.
It saves awkward follow up or avoidance of meeting someone you don't really have the inclination to meet right now.
When you are suggesting that someone you know meets someone else --tell them why ---and give them an easy opt out.
I have many leaders tell me I simply have to meet their boss/peer/CEO. My approach is to give them a copy of my book which they can give to them and say you would benefit from a conversation with this innovation and leadership expert that I heard speak at a conference recently. Are you interested? If we have a double yes, the introduction is made.
Try the Double Yes Introduction next time you are asked, your colleagues will thank you for it!
Dedicated to growing your business,
Val
