Would You Like Me To Visit Your Company First To Share My New Book Launch?

December 6, 2021 Nick Pritchett

I’ve just arrived in New York to speak to 850 technology leaders this week. Are you finding packing for business trips is harder? It took me twenty times longer to pack my suitcase and I forgot what landing but sitting on the tarmac for 45minutes with no gate felt like, but I am like a caged animal who just broke free. It feels so good to be back traveling again!

So I am ready if you are!! … for some more real life experiences. Strategy retreats, innovation labs, keynote talks, workshops, advisory work for executives, boards, and teams. Let me know if you want to talk.

My January is nearly fully booked and the next few months after that are getting close so don’t be like my flight that was stuck behind all the other ones that got their first and jump to the front of the queue!

What’s it all about?

Words That Work: Communicate Your Purpose, Your Profits and Your Performance

Never have our words mattered more than in the last 18months. How we lead, how we have shown those around us that we care, how we make sure that our intentions, purpose, and passion are all aligned.

As a CEO or senior executive, the stakes are extraordinary in every conversation. Millions or even billions of dollars are in jeopardy during board meetings, investor calls, media interviews, customer interactions, and employee conversations. The most successful executives know this and invest their time preparing in a thoughtful and intentional way while continuously improving their knowledge and skills in how to communicate to drive profitable growth.

Throughout this book we will pause and deconstruct words that work and words that do not work. I will give you a rapid list of alternative words to say in a multitude of situations. If you have an inattentive brain like mine, you can skip to the appendix where you can find the shortcut to the complete list of actual phrases and words that simply work.

If you are buying in bulk for your team or company let me know so I can extend special offers to you. Or pre order your copy at your favorite local bookstore to support your local small business. Or you can preorder it online at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Barnes & Noble, Target, Booktopia.au,  Waterstones, Amazon.ca

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val

Why These Reminders Are So Important About The Value Of Quality Sleep

November 29, 2021 Nick Pritchett

There is a teacher in England giving out beds to kids who don’t have one to sleep on because they are sleeping on the sofa, a chair or the floor. Bex Wilson, a teacher from Leeds, England, set up a charity four years ago to make sure kids had a bed to sleep on so they got a good nights rest allowing them to do better at school. You can read all about it here. It’s an incredible cause and addresses an issue not often spoken about.

Talking of sleep…

Up until 8 days ago, I’d been having the best quality sleep for 14 years. A new home, a new bed, black out shutters and new habits of going to bed early all helped my incredible new levels of sleep. Until Winston the puppy arrived and it all changed!!

I’m getting flashbacks of the newborn phase of my eldest daughter and my twin daughters and while Winston the puppy has slept through the night a couple of times, the early morning wake ups and the middle of the night whimpering to be let out of his crate to pee are messing with my delightful 8-hour a night sleep patterns!

Luckily the power of naps are new habits in our house and my Garmin watch tells me how restorative my sleep was each night so I can tell how what I eat (or drink!) or how much I exercise impacts my sleep.

You can complete your own sleep experiment with the one hour sleep test. Add one hour to your typical sleep time for seven days and pay attention to how you feel and what improvements you see to your productivity.

For more detailed sleep advice you can find it in my article How To Use Sleep to Increase Your Performance

Meanwhile, I’ll be going to bed early pending the Winston whining that we likely will be hearing for the next few days or weeks. Luckily he is learning fast and has brought a new level of joy, energy, and working together to look after him to the Wright House!

…before I go, did you see this commercial from Heathrow Airport when it first came out in 2016? ( errr you might need tissues if you watch it! 🥲 It is like it was made for this holiday season! It is simply adorable and captures the excitement I’m feeling about my mum and dad finally being able to come and visit us here in Los Angeles in December!

…also, if you want to pre order a copy of my new book Words That Work: Communicate Your Purpose, Your Profits and Your Performance you can do so at your favorite local bookstore to support your local small business. Or you can preorder it online at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Barnes & Noble, Target, Booktopia.au, Waterstones, Amazon.ca
Let me know if you want to purchase multiple copies for your team, company, or event and I can let you know about special pricing and offers.

Until next week!

Val

How To Successfully Enjoy Meeting In Real Life Again

November 22, 2021 Nick Pritchett

I’m just back from Palm Springs where I got to host several discussions at the Women of the Channel West event with 250 leaders from the technology companies that support the IT Channel.

Here’s how to enjoy meeting in real life again:

1. Ask and respect everyone’s comfort level.

At check in we were asked to explain our comfort level through red/yellow/green dots on our name tags. So whether you were wanting to keep your distance or give out hugs as frequently as Olaf, you could easily share your desire for close proximity with others and learn how to respect others space.

2. Meet those you have missed

I’ve had the pleasure of working with select groups of senior executives over the last nine months virtually as part of Women of the Channel’s Senior Leadership Forum. An invite only community of Channel executives from around the world. Last week five of us got to meet in real life which was energizing, inspiring, and full of insights and laughter. ( AND Everyone got a preview of my forthcoming book Words That Work: Communicate Your Purpose, Profit, and Performance, coming out in January 2022)

3. Only show up where you really want to go

I’ve heard this endlessly from executives around the world…there is a mass reset of deciding the highest priority travel and events. Know WHY you are attending an event and what you want to achieve from it. Be comfortable saying no to the right opportunities so you have time to attend to your priorities.

4. Give your social battery time to recharge

Even the boldest social loving people need time to both prepare and recuperate before and after events. Especially after nearly two years of remote virtual isolation. Arrive early, stay later and give yourself the alone time you need to just be.

5. Make it better than Zoom

It needs to be radically different than meeting on Zoom or why will anyone bother to come? This applies to events and returning to a physical office. Showing up and experiencing the same as if you were working from your home just won’t cut it.

For those who have been asking, yes we have a new member of the Wright Family and you can see what he looks like here.

Wishing a wonderful Thanksgiving week to those this side of the pond!

Dedicated to growing your business,

Val
