How To Easily Describe 2020 In One Word

What word springs to your mind when you think of 2020? It’s taken twitter by storm as everyone in the twitter universe tweeted their reaction to 2020 in one simple word.

What’s yours?

For me, it is gratitude.

Never have I felt more grateful for my own and my families health until 2020.

Never have I felt more grateful for being able to continue with my work all from behind a rectangle screen in the safety of my attic office until 2020.

Never have I felt more grateful or noticed the important role healthcare workers and essential workers play in our communities.

Never have I felt more grateful for my ability to use the power of my voice for those who do not have a voice.

Never have I felt more grateful that our basement flooded 365 days ago that meant we had to unexpectedly move house to a place that is far easier to have 5 people at home all working/at school as we move into month 9 of lockdown.

My favorite way to refocus myself in gratitude is to watch this video by Louis Schwartzberg, it’s six minutes of pure brilliance. It might spark for you what you have been most grateful for this year.

How To Remain Energized And Inspired When You Feel It Least

Do you miss your friends?
Do you miss conferences?
Do you miss business travel?
Do you miss the serendipitous conversations in the elevator, corporate coffee shop, or walk from the car park to your office?
Do you miss the hand shake with your new potential customer?
Do you miss real life meetings where you can actually write on a real life whiteboard?
Do you miss the certainty of you future business?

What else do you miss?

Please don’t give me the well intentioned “but look at what we gained from lockdown...” responses — sure, there are upsides for some.

but.this.is.hard.

and before we celebrate how we have adapted, changed, evolved, and learned...

Take a moment to vent about what you miss.

Only then can you try and replicate it, replace it, or just grieve what you can’t have right now.

I get my energy from my family, friends, and my peloton.

We usually have a cocktail party on the evening of the last Friday of school. Instead this year I reluctantly converted it to a small zoom gathering. I was ready to no-show or cancel 5 minutes before, but my husband persuaded me otherwise.

It turned out far better than I imagined and I got the much needed energy boost from “seeing” dear friends.

Right now I am working on Virtual Sales Kick Off events, Marketing Strategy Workshops, Innovation Labs, Executive Leadership Forums, Sales Enablement Programs, Board Development, Digital Launch Events, Acquisitions, and Executive Team Coaching.

All of which is virtual.

There are unique ways you can radically change how you lead, adapt, and grow right now.
